Hear It From Bri: Don’t Give Good Sounding Advice

Growing up, at home or at school on the playground, I was the person people came to seeking advice what to do. This began from as early as I remember. When I was little, sitting in the car with mom, I’m sure her talking out loud with her quandaries didn’t mean she was expecting an answer from me, but one day I started to attempt to answer those questions my mother had.

This advice giving poured over into my school life on the playground. Ninety percent of the time I had no idea what I said, but it sounded logical, because I spoke confidentially like I did know all.

It wasn’t until I became an adult and my advice needed to bear merit, I learned just because it sounds wise, doesn’t mean that it actually is…

We live in the digital age, where opinions and reasoning by what sounds good or the most confident becomes accepted as facts and as the truth. The majority of culture today, permits you to promise all you want with lip service with showing zero results, and people EXPECT there to be no delivery on your word. How unfortunate?!

Nowadays, I do my best to be honest, if I don’t have any advice to give, I just offer prayer. If you’re not a person of prayer, well now would be the time to change your mind about that and choose Jesus today. Knowing Him helps you find your place in the grand scheme of existence.

I could go on and on about this subject, but for the answers you do have and it is proven from a reliable source and/or you have lived it out… then give those answers when people come to you seeking advice… However, if you’re not sure, but you have a theory… ask the person if they want to hear your speculation… move on if they say, “no”. Lastly, and hopefully, obviously, if you have no idea… boldly admit so. Maybe you will think of a source they can go to for answers or you know someone they can talk to… you’re still a wonderful human being if you don’t have all the answers.

Let’s bring back the power of someone’s word. That starts with integrity flowing from our lips. That starts with not just saying things that sound good, clever, or deep. That starts with only giving advice we know, and not just think, will work.

Much love,
