I change my mind a lot. When it comes to creativity, I can be a little fickle.
I announced- not too long ago- of the new story series I was launching on the blog… “Grace Trials”… well, I’m not anymore!
Big surprise there?! Okay, I should turn the vain glory down a notch, right?
I was looking through some of my notes from my devotional time with God… Based on what God has laid on my heart, working on “Grace Trials” to fit the platform of my personal blog, is not my primary focus as of now.
As the Prophet Samuel said… obedience is greater than sacrifice…
“Delayed Obedience” and “Disobedience” both start with “D” and they are serious downgrades as to what is God’s best for life.
I’m on a “Faith Grow” journey right now… And I’m not saying I’m collecting more faith or getting more, but I’m growing the faith I already have…
You know, it’s like a seed. A seed to a tree will become that tree, if all the conditions are right. If the seed is planted in good soil, deep down but not too deep, if the seed gets sufficient watering, and if the seed germinates and sprouts roots and builds a strong extensive root system, and then breaks through to the surface, and gets sun, well… need I go on with this massive run-on sentence- the SEED GROWS into A TREE!
I’m convinced that our faith is like a tree. All we need to start is faith the size of a muster seed, and when we apply the Word of God, and heed to God’s voice, and build a healthy life balancing the spiritual and the practical aspects of our lives, our seedling of faith grows into a huge beautiful tree.
Now the question is… is our faith to be like a tree or are we the tree?
If true faith is believing and believing is taking action, and who we are is reflected in what we do, and if what we think determines who we are… then we most definitely are trees… right?
My point is simply this… I want to be like the tree described in Psalm 1.
[The Way of the Righteous and the Wicked
1 Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish. (ESV)]
The key to being that tree is not following the ways of the wicked (I take that wicked as “worldly ways”). Another key is being in the word of God day and night. Not just reading it, but living it.
These two keys sound simplistic and essentially are simple.
I could go on about this concept of being like a tree, but that is a lot to unpack.
I’ll wrap this post by adding, it is impossible to mature into the measure of faith Christ gave to us through His life, death, and resurrection without following His living word. Jesus is the one who was, and who is, and who is to come. The Bible displays various believers, at different stages in their faith, but they all had the same goal, to follow after God while living in a world driven by selfish, corrupt people. No one can be forced into believing in God, that concept violates free will, but anyone can witness the power and glory of the Living God, and that only gets done IF:
- We are sustained by a never ending source (streams of water).
- We are productive and nurturing others from what we produce in our lives (yield its fruit in its season).
- We are strong in times of change (its leaf does not wither).
- We excel in excellence and even when we do things we’re not good at, we are massively successful (in all that he does, he prospers).
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for a “Faith Grow”!
